Discover Recycling
Environmental responsibilities have never been more important than they are today. Concern over global warming and restrictions on carbon emissions has forced businesses and individuals to take responsibility to reduce their impact on the environment.

Here at Discovery Flexibles we are focused on reducing the impact we have on the environment both as an operating factory and through the products we supply to the packaging sector.  We are partnered with local business to reduce the effect on the environment for various recycling projects, including:

  • Press end boards & plastic end plugs
  • Print pess chemical barrels
  • Ink barrels
  • All film waste
  • All paper products
  • Aluminium Foil

Additionally, we have an in-house recycling system to recover all solvents for internal use with surplus being sold for fuel.

We implement a Reduce, Re-use, Recycle strategy across our business.

Some of our GREEN achievements include-

We recently worked with our film manufacturer to produce an ultra thin OPP. We achieved lamination of 3.5 micron OPP to paper. The current lowest market standard is 15 micron.

Reducing material thickness allows more packaging to be produced using less material. In turn, the thinner material biodegrades quicker and weighs less, allowing more material to be transported and reducing the overall carbon footprint.

Reduction in Ink Systems and Ink Waste – this project has seen side benefits in improved quality to our customers.

Our continued waste reduction projects have seen us competing with the very best in Europe. Our current performance shows a 50% reduction in waste produced when compared to 2009.

Our waste solvent is sent away to be used as fuel for cement kilns. We also send all waste plastic to be re-used as void fill chips.

As a business we are focused on recycling where possible. This includes waste from our offices and canteen. Our continued efforts are paying off as we now recycle 95% of waste produced on site.

Working closely with our suppliers (Material, Ink and Adhesive) we’ve developed a fully compostable coffee bag (triplex laminate). We are now applying this technical knowledge and experience to develop a wider range of compostable packaging solutions.
