Polyvinylidene chloride or PVdC as we know it better is applied as a water-based coating to plastic films such as biaxially-oriented polypropylene (BOPP) and polyester (PET). This coating increases the barrier properties of the film, reducing the permeability of the film to oxygen and flavours and thus extending the shelf life of the food inside the package.
These barrier properties within the flexible packaging world are extremely important to safeguard optimum product quality and maximise shelf life. In addition, PVdC coatings give a high gloss finish and have excellent abrasion resistance.
They are suitable for use in roll wrap, overwrap and form-fill seal applications in most packaging markets.
